05 F250 Won't start

Hey guy's, I guess it's my turn. My truck wouldn't start the other day for about five minutes then it started and ran like nother had happened. It has seemed to not want to start as easily as usual but today I was out in the pasture pulling some fence and had it in 4 low and when I finished I turned the truck off while I finished the fence anyway I truck wouldn't start back. It is cranking fine and just doesn't seem to be getting any fuel. I pulled the top filter and I will replace both it and the lower tomorrow but I am not sure if that will do it. There aren't any trouble codes and I can hear the plugs warming up when I turn the key on. Thanks in advance for any info.

jmaxe444: Welcome to FTE. Your problems could be a number of things, but it really sounds like a leak in your high pressure oil system. Your 2005 model year has a "snap-to-connect" fitting off of the high-pressure-oil-pump (HPOP) that commonly leaks. The HPO is what actuates the injectors. If you do not develop enough pressure in the HPO system - it will not start. When the leak is small, the truck will tend to start cold, but not hot.

Hey, thanks for the info. Will there be a lot of oil around the outside of the oil filter on the top of the motor if that is the case and is that a warranty item?

No, the HPO will not will not leak at the oil filter. The HPOP leaks internally. The cover is underneath the turbo, the turbo needs to come off and if your lucky, you don't have to take the intake manifold off. But if the truck has under 100k its covered by ford, just take it in to them, they'll fix it.

The warranty after the initial 3yr/36k is 5yr/100k on the engine alone (with $100 deductible)? Does that sound right?

Sort of (the info below is from my 2006, but I believe the 05 warranty book is the same.....):

The 5 yr / 100k warranty coverage (per the manual, page 7) includes the following:
Engine and these components:
cylinder block
heads and all internal parts
intake and exhaust manifolds
timing gear
harmonic balancer
valve covers
oil pan and pump
water pump
fuel system (excluding fuel line and fuel tank)
high pressure lines
gaskets and seals
glow plugs
turbocharger
PCM
electronic driver unit
injectors
injection pressure sensor
high pressure oil regulator
exhaust backpressure regulator and sensor
camshaft position sensor
accelerator switch

In addition to the regular warranty you have an emissions warranty.

For repairs under the emissions warranty, you will not be charged for labor, diagnosis, or parts for any emissions control device or system for 100k (ie no $100 deductible). Covered parts:

Air flow sensor
Air Fuel Feedback control System and sensors
Cold start enrichment system
Electronic engine control sensors and switches
EGR system
Exhaust manifold
Fuel Injection System
Intercooler Assembly - Engine Charger
Power Train Control Module
Turbocharger Assembly

Also covered by the two emissions warranties (Emissions defect warranty and Emissions performance warranty):
All emisssions-related bulbs
hoses
brackets
tubes
gaskets
seals
belts
connectors
non-diesel fuel lines and wiring harnesses that are used with components on the list above.

Also - late model 06's and the 07's have a complimentary 5 yr / 60k powertrain extended care warranty.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the 5 yr/ 60k only pertained to certain date build 06's.

Yeah you are right - that is why I said "late model 06's".

I should have looked it up again (wish I could remember that date - must be a mental block). The date is July 14th, 2006 - any vehicle sold on or after that date had the complimentary warranty.

Hey, thanks for all of the info. guys. I am going out to change the fuel filters now and I will see if that solves the problem. I guess the next oil change I can take it down to Ford and let them see if there is anything else that needs to be fixed. I have 53K miles on it and change the oil at the 5's. I am planning on buying the extended warranty when I get up towards the 100K mile mark. Thanks again.

I attribute my mental blocks to old age, wish I had a diff. excuse!

Well I changed the filters the other day and until today had no problems. I made a stop on the way home and when I came back out cranking with no start. It seems the truck is still having harder starts than it has had in the past. The thing is this time I tried cranking it again after only a minute or two litterally and pumping the pedal a little bit shile cranking and it started. I haven't cleaned the EGR valve and I have about 52K miles on the truck.
