charging problem f-100 1977 302

I have a f-100 302 1977 with a charging problem. I replaced the altantor, nothing, replaced the voltage reg, nothing. I took the altantor back out and took it to the auto parts store and it checked out fine. I put it back in still nothing. So I have a new altantor, and new voltage reg. and am not getting a charge to the battery. Any help out there. Thanks Jeff

You have a blown fusible link, check your harness coming off of the solenoid.

Here is the alternator, wiring harness and regulator I just pulled from my truck. The fusible link is in the darkened circle and should be attached to the starter solenoid along with the + battery cable.

What do you mean by "rang out"?

You'll likely need to test it with a multimeter, a fusible link can look great, but in fact be blown.

If the fusible is ok, the alternator is new and the Voltage regulator is new you need to start tracing wires for breaks. The system is fairly simple and it's all contained right there by the battery area.

Does you horn work? The same wiring harness that contains the connector for the horn also contains the "I" exciter for the alternator.

Thanks, I put a meter on the fuses and they were OK. The horn works, so I think I will replace the new voltage reg. and see if I just have a bad one. After that it may be wires. If you have any other ideas I am open.
Thanks for everything. Jeff

Randomly replacing parts is useless and bad practice. Do you have an ALT light, or an ammeter on your gauge cluster?

No, your truck dash gauges... do you have the amp and oil pressure gauges or idiot lights?

What style voltage regulator did you use... the original points style or the newer solid state?

Just curious...

It was a Duralast VR730 I don't know much after that. Now that I'm back working on this old truck I need to brush up on my old gear head side. Its been about 35 years. You forget a bunch. Thanks again. Jeff
