There is one in the radiator and one between the intercooler and radiator. The one on the front is the power steering cooler.

Yours should only have the trans cooler in the rad stock. The small external cooler was only on the early birds, unless someone has added it.

That requires a mighty big toilet. IMHO you would be better recycling it for scrap.

Why do you feel the need to flush the cooler, or is this to be part of a complete fluid change?

the trans is getting warm. i thought it might be the bypass valve but now im thinking it wasnt it and now im out $56, so now its gotta be a plug somewhere. i knew it had a cooler between the rad and intercooler but didnt know about the one in the rad. so how do i go about flushing them both?

So the late model goes into the rad and then into an external cooler? I thought the late models just used the rad as a cooler.
Either way, disconnect the lines and run some brake-kleen through there (a few cans ought to do the trick).

The early trucks ('99-mid 2000) only had the air to oil out front, nothing in the radiator. All trucks since mid-2000 have both.

There is NO way to flush a cooler. You can make the trapped particles cleaner with brake clean, but you can't get them out. Some of them will eventually work loose and cause problems in the trans.

The only way to make plugged coolers work is to replace them.
