I am installing new gears in my 1997 F250 HD Crew Cab 4x4... I have a 460 under the hood with an AOD and will running 35in tires. I do not "Rock Crawl" but I do tow a ski boat or camper trailer. 80% of my driving time is on the freeway. I am stuck in my decision between 410s or 456s.
What does evryone think?
Im kinda going through the same thing with my truck. I would imagine the 4.10's would be good for your truck since your big-block can pull taller gears and 35's arent too big of tires, but your overdrive trans can handle a lower gear too, so I guess you could have it iether way... For me it's a choice between 3.73 and 4.10. Since Im running a non-overdrive trans with 33" tires and a small-block, 4.56's were out of the question for me, too low. I think I've decided on 4.10's, Im willing to give up a little top end.
I dont know if that was really much help to you, just figured I'd throw that in as something to consider.
FWIW, I'd say go with 4.56 gears especially since you will be towing. With 35's that will give you 2850 rpm at 65 mph in 3rd gear. Calculating your OD gear at .80 reduction, you would have 2275 rpm in OD at 65 mph.
