Could someone please explain to Me where can I get a cheap scanner for My tranny and how to use it. I'd like to see what codes it is showing so I decide if I send it for a rebuild or it is something I can do to it. Tranny shifts fine except when I drive between 45 and 50mph it jumps a lot other than this it feels fine except some times when starting it is sluggish and not always but id does feel like the power comes and goes (slipping?). I replaced the fluid but it didn't change a thing.

Thank You.

Some of the experts will probably correct me but I think `97 was the year most trucks went to the OBD 2 system but I think some of the HD trucks stayed OBD1. It should tell you on a sticker under the hood.
If yours is OBD2 then check out Jegs from the list of site sponsors and look for code reader.
If OBD1 you can access codes without a code reader.

I have the obd2 scanner, where do I connect it same place? I thought maybe there was a plug in the tranny to connect it to. There is no check engine light ON in the dash so I wonder if it would show any codes.

Thank You.

Even with no light you can still have codes stored so it is worth checking. Now OBD2 systems have the diagnostic connector within reach when sitting in the drivers seat. Have a look, possibly under the dash for a multi-pin plug connector. Maybe someone who knows the later model trucks will chime in with the exact location.
Hope this helps.

Oh I know where that one is, I just thought maybe the tranny had one of this as well.

Anyone know what code #'s mean in case I have some?

Thank You.
