Hello i just bought a boat. the boat and trailer weigh 3200 pounds together.. now i have a 1996 ford ranger extended cab 2 wheel drive 3.0 v6 5 speed manual transmission.. i have tested to see if the truck will pull this and it did okay.. it struggled a little on hills... so im i okay with towing this much, are am i over my limit... i have been told by other sources that i should be able to pull between 3000 and 4000..... thanks, please give me some info at ajordan1@kscable.com
Thanks jim, i am confident to that the ranger will perform, i am going to get a receiving hitch put on in the morning and i will be ready for the lake as soon as the weather get warmer..
Not sure about you towing that much. I had a 1994 Ranger ext cab 2 wd with a 4.0 v6 and I was handling my load alright also which was a 18 ft Champion with 150 hp motor dual console. After about 3 hours of towing I noticed smoke coming from under the truck and found out I was blowing transmission fluid out of front seal. I did have a transmission cooler also , one of the biggest made. With that manual transmission, I expect you are going to be changing a few clutches.
I don't think there will be a problem with the towing end of it as I said earlier, I'm a little worried about the power for the ramps. I used to pull a 21 ft 5-er with my 4.0 auto ranger and it was tough but it would pull it at 70mph on the freeway. (Just ask the State Boy that gave me a ticket for it.) The boat should be no problem, just watch the ramps.
Jim.
