7.3 liter stock turbo

Will a stock turbo from a 2001 engine fit on a 1989 7.3 engine? What changes cor additions would I have to make?

I believe the 7.3 engine from 1989 would have been the 7.3 IDI engine which would mean that I don't believe you could add it in.

You could certainly post your question over in the https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum117/ channel which covers all years that the 7.3 IDI motor was standard in.

I can not say for sure about the difference in 7.3 IDI and Turboed. But go to the IDI forum and look up Dave Sponaugle. He was the IDI go to guy some years ago. All the info you need should be in his threads!

Sadly he hasn't been very active in the last 10-15 years! Super guy! Message him and he may respond!

On a naturally aspirated diesel, the only purpose of the intake manifold or its gasket is to keep dust out of the engine. Unlike a gas engine, there is no significant pressure differential between both sides of the gasket. Furthermore, even if the gasket did leak, it wouldn't matter like it does on a gas engine where the vacuum level is critical to proper combustion and fuel mixture. So yeah, long story short, as long as it's in good enough shape to keep bugs and mud out of the engine, you can reuse it.
