on gen. 1 lightnings(i know they dont on gen. 2) i dont think ford offered a standard right?? has any one swaped in a standard?? i would think it would be easy enough just get one from a 3/4 ton or bigger and im guessing you would need the sterring column as well to eliminate the auto shifter. i would think that a standard would offer better reliability, would be faster, and alot more fun. personally i love standard and in a couple years im gonna have to get something more reliable for collage but if i could find a desent lightning i would jump on it.
you could probably get one from a regular 150 with a 351, just MAKE SURE YOU DONT GET A M5OD. they suck. or you could get a tremec with a hydraulic throwout bearing. try www.fortesparts.com the guy there seems to know his stuff bout tremecs. good luck and hope this helps
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Apr-02 AT 11:35 AM (EST)]ya ive got an M5OD/300 six in my current truck with 127000 on it and have had good luck with it so far but i wouldn't trust it with a more powerful motor.
