Low range light

Low range light
Ok I just got my 97 eddie bauer. I was trying out the 4wd. When I select 4awd i can hear a noise like it is changing same when i go 4h. When i go 4l i hear nothing. Just wandering how I can tell it is in 4l. I know there is a low range light, but it doesnt come on only 4x4. When does the low range light come on. When in 4 low it sounds and feels like its in 4l. But how would I know.

i was stopped and in park. it went to 4h maybe i will try neutral. It said 4x4. In manual it says only if low range is available will low range light come on. is that a seperate option from 4wd.

low range is not a separate option. If you have 4wd you have it. Like everyone else says follow the proper procedure and it will work. There will be a "low range" light on the dash, and you will DEFINITELY notice it when you start driving.
