Also hook up a mechanical vacuum gauge,it'll tell you basically what type of mileage you're getting. The better the vacuum, the more torque you're producing .The more torque, the better the response.A very small adjustment in how much the pedal gets pushed down makes quite a difference in economy .

Ways to increase HP in 302
This forum seems it died a while back, but I have a question. Are there any mods other than true dual exhaust, removal of smog pump, camshaft upgrade, cold air intake, and re-machined heads? I drive a 1990 Ford F150 with a 302. It has an automatic transmission with a stock rear end at 125,XXX miles. I made all the obvious upgrades, but I am inquiring if there are other ways to get some pep out of my 302? I will soon be out of college and will need to maintain some form of mpg, so nothing insane. I've put on new American Racing wheels with Yokohama Geolandars just last summer. LMC Truck advertises an Intake Spacer designed to put a spin on the airflow. Is it actually worth considering, or is it just something shiny to install? A supercharger designed for the 302 is about $3000, so I would wait much later to install that. If you have any ideas, I would most appreciate them.

Haha yea this forum died much to long ago, but no problem a revive never hurts. As for your spacer question i can tell you its 100% false it doesn't improve mileage or anything for that matter. What it does do however it gives your truck a nice whistle sound to it, especially with the K&N air filter you can get for these trucks. One thing I did was install a bbk throttle body mixed in with the spacer, filter, full exhaust and i thought i noticed an increase but had to take it off (at the time my dads truck broke down and he had to use mine the one thing he didn't like was that the throttle body made the pedal a little stiffer) but it put some power to them wheels faster than the stock. I don't know why but it honestly did.

Well, after spending a good while browsing, I found a few things; some simple, some tricky.
1) Venom Performance Module-Easy, 20-25hp gain, Direct Fit
2) Accel Ignition Super Coil-Easy, 10hp gain, Direct Fit
3) Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifolds 3841(For EFI 5.0's)-Moderate, 37 max hp gain, Direct Fit
4) Accel Fuel Injectors- Moderate, 15 max hp gain, Direct Fit
5)Comp Xtreme Energy HR Cam-Hard, 40 max hp gain, Direct Fit
6)(To Break the bank for some fun)Trick Flow EFI Supercharger-Moderate, 150 max hp gain, Direct Fit
As for the Cam and the supercharger, I'm not entirely sure whether or not my 302 qualifies. The heads were machined 25,000 miles ago along with fresh rockers, rods, etc, and there is a cold air intake setup. The cam calls for a mass air intake and good heads, but I don't think a fancy filter qualifies as mass air. There is another thread in this forum on supercharging in which there are those for and recommending against superchargers on an internally stock 302.
I'm a little sketchy about the whole installing a module/chip to whip a few more horses out of the engine. It worked for my brother's Jetta, but that was because it forced his stock turbo to push more than double the pressure and run on premium. Without the premium fuel or turbo, it may not have the same effect.

Direct fit yes but the same power gains are achieveble for free by simply advancing the timing.
Direct fit yes but power gains are zero compared to a stock parts in good condition.
Direct fit yes but on it's own gains are zero because the stock intake is also oversized for the motor.
Direct fit yes but again power gains are bogus because the motor will only use as much fuel as it needs and besides that there is substantial unused over capacity in the stock injectors.
Aftermarket cams have to be compatible with the EFI system in the truck, but gains could top 100hp when paired with a full exhaust system.... no other changes to the motor.
There's more to doing this than most think but gains can be substantial and gains are bigger when the motor has other flow improving upgrades.
