I am curious, has anyone has contacted Ford about this? My rear right caliper completely disintegrated. After removing the wheel and rotor the whole e-brake assembly fell out in a bunch of rusted pieces. The e-brake has been used only twice on my truck in six years. This is extremely frustrating to say the least. It is sad when you jump on the forum and see so many other people having the same problem.

I have contacted my dealer, pretty much they said no problem, buy an axle and the backing plate comes on it, $600 or so later - um no thanks.... why dont you call Ford and let me know how you make out? I still have aluminum pieces of crap holding mine together.

Yeah, after sueing ford I just can't imagine they really care if my whole truck falls apart or not. My truck was in the shop more then it was home and funny they never discovered it was rusting away.

Replacement Backing Plates

For those who may be looking for replacements, I found that Doorman makes some. WWW.doormanproducts.com Take a look at P/N's 924-212 and 924-215. Unfortunatly, they will not fit my '99 F350 but they may help one of you. I purchased the 924-212 kit from United Auto Parts for about $50 and it is for both sides. The left fit my truck but the right will not. Looks like I am headed to the dealer for the right. The quoted $400 for the dust shield with the shoes attached. YIKES!

Good luck,
Jeff

My 99 was actually manufactured in March of 98. It seems mine is an odd-ball. I have since modified the one that did not fit bu cutting and welding. I couldn't see spending an additional $400 when we have all the other parts and might only get another year out of this truck. This truck is a crew cab that gets used daily in our construction business.

So the parts guy tells me that they are part of an assembly that comes with the caliper bracket, 4 studs, and all of the parking brake parts for $335 each side. Of course the assembly doesn't include the rubber boot where the cable attaches. Is this true? Can anyone direct me to a place to just get the backing plates? Any other suggestions?

Picked mine up at O'Reillys for 60 bucks. Both sides. Now does anybody have a schematic of how the E-brake shoes go on? Mine disintergrated when I pulled mine off. So I dont know wher any of the springs go or anything.
