Warming up and Down truck

Just wondering How many of you guys Warm up and warm down your engines? Now days I see olot of people with diesels that never warm down or warm up their engines. Im amazed that their EGT's haven't destroyed their trucks yet.

I always warm up and especially warm DOWN my powerstroke.

I always let mine warm up but honestly never even thought about letting it cool down. I have never known a lot about diesels but you guys teach as well as anybody. I guess I should start doing that cause about the only time I drive mine there is a big *** trailer of one kind or another behind it and it works it pretty hard.

im very good to my engine, always warm up for 15 mins before i drive it, and at night i plug it in, what do you mean by cool down, like letting it sit or run till the temp drops then kill it?

1997 250 HD vaccum at idle is only 14 lbs. if you step on brakes twice you have no brake assist and the brake lite comes on, their are no leaks.

The cool down issue is the turbo. The point is to let the the oil that lubricates the turbo cool off a bit. After a hard run or whatever the turbo could be damaged if shut down immediately.

To expand on that... Shutting it down immediately after hard operation leaves that warm oil in the housing coking the bearings and everything else.

I've noticed that trend as well. Not many new owners spend the time to let the engine get close to operating temperature anymore.

I rarely let it warm up when I leave, except for the block heater. I do however, take it easy until the engine is warmed up, usually a few miles or so. As far as cool down, no, but the drive back my road should be enough time for cooling down.

Cool down operation for the turbo is to drop a gear and run at a lower speed. I pull off the highway and travel 2 miles of gravel road to get to my house thats when I drop out of overdrive and travel at 35mph.

Normal speaking for the heavy transport truck engines, its said 30 seconds cool down is all thats required.

Just dont want the turbo hot and spoolled up right? So if I take it easy for the last minute of my drive I wont have a problem? I leave my truck running alot anyway (when its cold out, I will just let it run if I am leaving or needing it semi soon)
