E4OD tranny porblem help..?

My Overdrive light is flashing on and off, and the truck is shifting really hard..Ive read that this means the tranny is in limp mode? Or the tranny is overheating? i really do not want to have to replace this tranny until i can afford a whole swap. Can anyone confirm the problem here? much help appreciated. The truck is a 96 F150 351W ext cab shortbed, and its a 2wd.

also ever since i got the truck..(about 6 months) if you put it into drive it lurches forward or if its in reverse it will lurch back, along with a clunking noise. or if your slowing down to a stop, it will do the same thing, even if youre on the brakes.

For this problem there is a thread on the transmissions page about that. The transmission expert there described a faulty valve I think. If you scroll down there you could read it.
As for the other shifting problem you should pull the stored codes otherwise it is only guess work.
