Converting a fuellie engine to carbed, a few Q's?

Well, it's time to drag my wheeling junk out of the snowbank for another season, and, I need to address it's engine, again.... Last year's re-fresh was unfortunately short lived, something managed to get into the unfiltered side of the oiling system while I had things apart and took out the bearings in short order... I'd just stick another set of bearings in it and it'd probably be fine, but, I have a low mile '88 fuellie engine kicking around, and while I did look at running it fuellie, just the price of a set of headers for it made me decide otherwise.
So, I'm looking at just using the short block. Should be a pretty basic straightforward swap my heads and intake etc. over and go sort of deal right?
Something sticks in my head as to the 88-93 pistons having a much smaller dish and the compression ending up around 9.5:1 with my E6 heads? Been a long time since I did the math, I've had this engine kicking around since 03 or so.
Anything else I should look out for? Maybe something stupid like pushrod length issues?
My existing engine is an 86, so, I am already external balance, and all of my accessories, timing cover and flywheel should bolt on without issue.
I'm debating swapping over my cam, which is a Summit racing special, that is really lacking lift for the duration it has, or just getting something new. But, my 300 mile old straight up timing set will probably get re-used.
Any silly hangups I might run into?
This is pretty much just a stop gap measure until the budget allows for a stroker, so, I don't want to dump a fortune into it.
