Lightning Weight

My boss has an 02 L and I was talking with him the other day about my truck's weight. My truck is about 5300lbs according to the dump's scale. We got into talking and my boss mentioned that his lightning also weighs in around 5300lbs. I was shocked, I thought the lightnings were down around 4600. My truck looks huge parked next to his L, it's generally just a bigger truck. Just one of my wheel/tire combo weighs about 80lbs....and I have 4wd, thats another 200 lbs i bet.

I was wondering if maybe the scale he went to was off (different scale than what I went to)...

Have any of you weighed your lightnings and have any #'s to offer?

Mine weighed anywhere from 4700 to 4900 with me in it. At the lightest, I had the hitch, tailgate, sway bar and seat removed with less than 1/4 tank of gas.

If you have a hard bed cover and a full tank of fuel, it will bump the weight up considerably.

Don't know who you were referring to, but my numbers were from the scale at Raceway Park.

If he has a hard tonneau cover, 20" wheels, and some other heavy add on's then I could see it.

My 01 with me in it (250 lbs) and about 3/8 tank of gas is 4930. I haven't removed any weight from it just for the sake of making it lighter, but I have done headers and exhaust and a few other things that might change it one way or the other a few pounds.

The stock 01-04 L wheel weighs 66 lbs with a 99-00 tire on it. With the correct 01-04 tire it should weigh 70. So the L wheels aren't much of a savings over a 80 lb 4x4 wheel.

The 4x4 stuff probably adds a lot more than 200 lbs. There's a transfer case, front axle, driveshaft, and all the little things.

I would never trust a scale designed for the weight of a 80k lb truck to tell me what my 5k lb truck weighs. If they're certified to be within 1% of full scale (this is pretty common on smaller scales) they could be off by 800 lbs at any wieght.

Lightning wheels weigh that much? My 35" tall tire weighs 55 lbs, and with my wheel weighs about 80-90 lbs.
