Can't Unlock Doors With Key

My key won't even turn the locks in my doors. The key FOB works fine. But If the battery in the FOB dies I will be locked out. I'm in Nor Cal, so the temps don't get cold enough to freeze the locks. It's like I have the wrong key.

They may just be frozen up from lack of use. You might try to talk to a locksmith and see what they use in locks to lube them up that doesn't attract dirt.

They sell a Graphite (lubricant) for door/car locks at your local home depot or lowes...try lubing it up good w/ graphite and easily work the key back and forth...I too had my key fob die, never replaced it...and had the same issue when i had to start using the key.

Yep - I would blow it out with a little compressed air, then use some dry graphite. being it's dry, it won't collect dirt like a oil lubricant.

Does it only not work on the driver's side? My OEM key quit working on the driver's side but worked on the pass side. I tried a copy I had made and it worked fine. Try having another made as they have a lot sharper edges and might work.

Neither door will unlock. We got a new fire engine to look at today, so that took up a lot of my free time. I will try to fix it tomorrow. Thanks for all of the tips.

I was told by a locksmith that silicone spray is the best thing to use in a lock. It repels moisture and will not allow dust to collect on the mechinism.

My local Lowes doesn't carry graphite, so I got some silicone spray. I sprayed a little in the key hole and forced it through with some compressed air. Both door locks work like new. Thanks for all the tips. I tried WD-40 before, but it didn't work. Maybe I didn't get it in far enough.

Bought my truck and only the passenger door would unlock with the key. Sprayed WD-40 in the locks whenever I thought of it and had the chance. Almost a year later, the tailgate unlocked! Within a week the driver's door unlocked too. It took a while but now all 3 locks (both doors and tailgate) work with the key.

WD-40 all the way...

What can't be fixed with WD-40, Duct Tape, and bailing wire?
