Inlet diameter for new muffler???

Looking to get some exaust work done on the truck, and I can't seem to find which inlet diameter I need for th enew muffler... I guessing and hoping its a 3" pipe. Am I correct? Thanks guys.

Don't think anything came that big except a diesel. My 302 was 2 1/4". Not sure if the 351 was bigger?

use a tape measure and measure it on the od and id... add 1/8 inch to the Id measurement and that should give you the size you need to go over it

Dang these trucks are choked up. It must be 2.5" then, Im sure it will apprecaite the ability to breathe a little better even it just a dual outlet muffler...

You would be surprised. A truck doesn't need a big pipe. 2.25 is about perfect. It's everything else that hurts the flow; cats, mufflers, etc. You want scavenging and the best way to get this is to the correct sized pipe all the way through.

Yeah, cast iron maniflods+ 2 cats+ single pipe doesnt help the ole 351 breathe easy higher in the power band. Those cats are really going to take a lot of volume out of the exhaust note...

A C-clamp makes a decent "poor-man's" caliper for measuring outside pipe diameter.
