It's a baby boy!

Have been a little occupied the last 4 days. The wife went into the hospital Saturday night to have the baby induced as it was overdue. Took till Monday at 8:00 am to get the drug dosage right and have predictable contractions. For 3 1/2 hours I coached her through so that even the nurses felt comfortable stepping out for a second or two. Reading and understanding the monitors wasn't a problem. After all that time her contractions got farther and farther apart to the point they stopped. Her uterus could contract no more and the baby was no closer to coming out and she wanted to deliver at home with a midwife and me. Ha! So OB came in to talk about the C-section of which I am not a fan of but I understand when it may be needed.

Into surgery we all go and I am seating behind the drape holding her hand. She is filipina, and has only been her 6 years, so the hospital stuff is a bid deal to her. She is very tough and handles the surgery. The only thing she is afraid of is taking pills go figure? Then when the baby comes out all the nurses, 5 of them, gasp and go he's huge. Well now I know it is a boy and he is big. He is 10lb. 12oz. and was too big to fit through her cervix. On top of that my wife felt March 20th was the true due date. Could have been almost 12 lbs. at that time. Funny in that I am not a big guy at 6'1" and 170 lbs. Anyway the baby is doing fine, passed all neurological tests, has well defined muscles in arms and legs already and likes to sleep after eating. Also not a crier at all My wife lost some blood but is doing well and will be home in 2-3 days. So tonight I get some of my first good sleep in 72 hours. This is my first and at my age! I must be crazy...!

Congrats Mike! Glad to hear everyone is Okay. sounds like quite an ordeal, we got lucky with both of ours 1 day in the hospital and home. Better stock up on food now, sounds like that boy will eat you out of the house. Enjoy fatherhood for all it's worth. And A Name?

I'm of Irish heritage, it was close to St. Patricks Day, I didn't like many males names due to the associate nick names and my wife wouldn't let me use my name of Michael so I chose Brendan Michael.

If it had been a girl she chose the Hawaiian name of Liana as her name is Lailani.

That's a great name! We chose not to name our boys after anyone in the family so there were no conflicts I have several Phillipino Friends and I still can't believe that big boy fit in her. lol Hope she got home and you all have a wonderful time becoming a Family. God Bless.

Nope she is not home yet. She lost a bit of blood during the C-section so she is anemic and a little dizzy at times. The doctor wanted to do a transfusion but she has absolutely refused that. Doesn't think that is right. I'll have to talk with her about how transfusions are used in this country. So she won't be discharge till Friday morning which means 6 days in the hospital.

refusing an infusion sounds kinda smart given all the possible consequences. Congrats on the new member to the forum, lol. I worked at a hospital for a while. One Dr had about a 90% C-Section rate. Makes you wonder. I can understand a C-section in your case. That little sumo wrestler was enjoying the good life and was probably refusing to budge, lol. My first kid was the opposite of yours. She decided to come out early instead of late. She was 3 months early and 1 lb 15 oz. 6 days is much better than 4 months in the hospital. Enjoy him. They grow up overnight.
