Hey guys,I went to replace my hubs( Ive already got the hubs...I got them for Christmas) and discovered the outer axle shaft on the passenger side needs to be replaced as well,now,my question is,what else will I need to get to do this job? Ive been told the axle seal(???) will get destroyed when I break the assembly down,I want to replace the u joint while Im in there.Ive been talking with Ed about this but turns out I wasnt clear with my parts request,can someone help me get a list together to give ED?

 

I thought I got it all right?

The axles come with the ujoints so need for those.


I listed the Inner axle seals, outer hub seals, orings, grease seals, you have the hubs. I couldn't think of anything else? so I'm open for suggestions too.

can't get just the outer stub shaft? only service in the assy.

Ok,I was told that I could get just the outer axle shaft,actually its on Guzzles page on doing the needle bearing grease job.I apoligize for not being clear,and yes, you did give me the list I asked for,but we werent on the same page...sorry for the misunderstanding.

you can get just the ujoint but not the outer shaft from Ford, maybe aftermarket?

but I don't know about that for sure.

Axle stub shaft

I would not mess with the the differential axle seals unless you have one leaking since the entire diff has to be removed to replace them. Just be careful when re-inserting the axles.

 

Hey Guzzle,I priced them at a big truck shop locally here in NC,but I found them cheaper from someone on here but I cant remember who it was,any ideas?

hmmmm, double checked his tag id number 610892-1, D-268-D, YC353002FF parts list 30.1-189 and I quote from the list I'm looking at
3B387 "serviced as part of 3219/3220"

GRRRRRRR


But after further review, maybe that was for the original part numbers F81Z3219BA and F81Z3220BA.

Cause the number was replaced to the 04 number, the number listed by Guzzle may be right. Not sure the 04 will work on the 99 but like I said I learn something new everyday.

here is the ujoint part number to use with the outer shaft part number.

F81Z3249AA X2

Pulled my '99's axle out and the needle bearing poured out of the hub. It had scored the stub shaft pretty badly. Schlepprock, were you able to replace just the outer stub shaft? If so, how hard and expensive was that? I'm hoping I don't have to get the entire Rt front axle for $616. Also, where did you end up getting just the outer and u-joint? Seems Ford only has the whole assembly. Thx...
