67 Galaxie build (dial up warning several pics)

I haven't posted about this car in a while (since it's not a truck duh LOL) It runs now, and hopefully it will be driving this week. gonna take it up and race it May 3rd. Plan is a street/strip car just to have some fun with. Bodywise it's not perfect, but fairly solid as is the frame although it does have some rust on the frame but not through anywhere.

Here is a few pics

Basically I have dropped a 390 in it that came out of a friends mud racer, with a C6 I built for him. Shoved a set of 3.63 gears with a traclok in the rear.

Don't have any pics that really show them but the headers are Crites with 2" primary tubes with 3.5" collectors.

AS you can see the cooling system is a 28x19 alum dual core radiator, fan wasn't on for the pics but is a 3000cfm unit.

Fuel system consists of major overkill for this motor but when I get around to it I will build another stroker big block probably. fuel pump is a mallory 250gph, with a BG regulator, 16 gallon fuel cell, with AN-10 line through a summit 10 micron filter, then to the pump, from there 1/2" alum line to the regulator then -8 line to the carb.

Right now the rims are torque thrust 14x7 on the front. with the rears being currently 15x8.5 centerline convo pro's with BFG comp t/a, but I just bought a set of 15x8 weld prostars with a set of 28x11.5-15 Mickey Thompson ET streets and will put some cheap street tires on the convo pros for cruising. (don't have pics of the new tires yet, cause they havn't gotten here yet LOL)

Also since this car had sat for almost 20yrs in a Kansas farm field it had some electrical problems so I put in a switch panet to wire up the MSD ignition and gauges, fuel pump and fans.

You can see the autometer procomp gauges, also have a 5" automotor tach with shift light.
Some of the other stuff is I converted it to manual brakes with disk on the front. I have fiberglass race seats with covers and although not installed yet 3" 5pt racing harness, a B&M quicksilver shifter.

Like I said the body work isn't even good, and that isn't really my strong suit anyway although the body is solid. And this is going to be one of those never ending projects to keep me busy, first order of business was to get it running so I could cruise and race it some, and hopefully get to take it up to the goodguys heartland nationals car show this year just for fun.

If you need a grille, FTE member gangstakr just found a NOS original in an old body shop.

He can be found in the 1961/66 forum.

My grill isn't too bad actually but thanx. (always good to hear about that type of stuff just in case) I could use some new taillight lenses and front turn signal lenses, mine are cracked although usable.

C7AZ13208A .. Right Parklamp Lens / Obsolete

KINSEL L/M in Beaumont TX has one: 800-816-2894

BOWMAN SALES & SERVICE in Bowman ND has one: 701-523-3257.

KLIMESH MOTOR SALES (ex-dealer) in Calmar IA has one: 563-562-3241.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
C7AZ13209A .. Left Parklamp Lens / Obsolete

KLIMESH has four.

BOWMAN has one.

FREESE MOTORS (another ex-dealer) in Monticello IA has one: 319-465-3541.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) C7AZ13450C .. R/L Taillamp Lens / Obsolete

Fits all 1967 Ford Galaxie/Custom/LTD/XL's except station wagons.

Surprisingly, no Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

You can soak 'em in hot water, fill in the cracks with clear epoxy...then polish them up...with tube toothpaste...I kid you not!

FYI: KLIMESH, FREESE, BOWMAN & KINSEL have tons of obsolete parts.

finally got the front tires changed over to the torque thrust wheels so I could put all the tires on it, here is a pic so you can see it in one pic. Notice the artwork by the local 8 yr old delinquents LOL. At least I still need to strip it down and primer it this year (although will probably end up going to the track before that gets done.)

Well finally got to take it around the block today, if I remember and understood the guy I bought it from correctly this is the first time in over 20yrs this car has moved under it's own power. Yep lots of little stuff still needs fixed but it runs and moves so there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Cool looking car!

If a repaint is in the future, any idea on a color yet?

These were pretty cars! Almost like them better than the 1963.

Those Torque Thrust wheels were always expensive, but man are they great looking! They always look great on the cars from the 1960's.

Dave I have been checking out paint and stuff and since it was blue originally and I did put in blue safety harnesses and I can get gallons of it reasonable I am going to shoot it with handicap blue paint LOL. actually like I said I can get a gallon of rustolem handicap blue paint for under $30 and it will give me a chance to play with my first paint job cheap enough that if I mess up it's no big deal and then if I want to get fancier later I will have the experience behind me. besides I actually know of another car locally painted with implement paint by rustoleum and unless he tells you you would never realize it was cheap paint.

Oh and since i mentioned the safety harness's here is an interior shot. When it warms up I need to wire brush and clean the front floorboards and coat with POR-15 then going to carpet it with something later, probably astro turf type of stuff, durable and easily cleaned.

Sweet Monster, what a beautiful car, okay it isnt beautiful to anyone other than a car guy. It looks pretty dry, and clean. So it is a beautiful foundation. Keep them coming. Dan
Ps Bill nice work on the parts scrounging, your reputation is well deserved!

It's looking good, however, I believe I would run a set of 30's or 4:10's to keep a car of that weight in it's power band easier. I saw a 65 or 66 galaxy clean up on pinks on one episode, it was blue. With the fastback styling, they make a good looking race car. The 390 can be built and stroked using 428 and 427 parts for a mean runner. The 390 is no sloutch in it's self. Throw on some primer and a few racing decals and it's pinkable. I like the fastback galaxy's and the 64-65 mercury comets, they were fastbacks, they would all make cool strip cars. Good luck on the project!!!!

If you think NOS trim parts are hard to find for 1967 Galaxies, just wait till you own a 1964/65 Comet.

Mouldings, grilles and etc. are non existant.

These two Comets are very collectible today, prolly the most sought after post war Merc's after the 1949/51's.

These Comets could be ordered with the 289 271HP Hipo engine, VIN engine code: K.

one thing to think about with the rustoleum paint Rob.
it does not have UV blockers in it, so it fades in a few years.

but rustoleum did come out with a clear coat that has UV blocker in it last year.
i am going to use it on the falcon if it ever gets done.
