1965 F250 4x4 power steering swap

I'm a new guy to the forum. I'm a proud owner of a beautiful, straight, rust-free, nearly stock, well cared for 1965 F250 4x4 with a 352. I've been researching different approaches to convert my pride and joy to power steering, but I'm still holding out for the best option. My most recent research brought me to an article posted here about using a Toyota truck power steering box in the 1948-1960 Fords. Many of the pictures posted in the article got me excited because the setup looks so similar to mine. My steering box is mounted on the inside of the frame rail, goes through the frame rail, and ties in with the drag link behind the tire. The Toyota box looks small enough to work with my application - as there is little room for modifications here - but I'm still not sure if it's small enough. I'm wondering if anyone has any valuable experience they'd be willing to share with me on this subject. Whether the information relates to the Toyota swap or other ways of achieving my goal, I would like to hear it all. Thanks for helping a brother out!

Can't help you on the steering mod, but it'd be nice of you to post a pic. Not too many nice original 4x4s left anymore...

Thanks

Many years ago, I had a 65 2 wheel drive. One guy I talked to back then told me that a gear off of slightly newer Ford with stock PS, would fit right in there. I never got around to trying it, but it may be worth taking some measurements. The pump and everything seems like it would bolt up easier.

the columns are shorter on the OE 65-6 p/s trucks...the steering box is a monster...and longer then the 67 up version...

4x4 power steering

I SWAPPED OUT A PAIR OF 1/2 TON AXLES IN MY 1962 F100 4X4 FOR 1976 F250 3/4 TON AXLES. THE FRAME WIDTHS WERE THE SAME, 34 INCHES ON THE OUTSIDE. 1973 WAS THE FIRST YEAR ANY FORM OF POWER STEERING/ASSIST WAS OFFERED IN 4X4 PICKUPS. THE 76 AXLES OFFERED BOTH DISC BRAKES AND LARGER REAR BRAKE DRUMS. I USED THE POWER ASSIST SLAVE CYLINDER FROM A 76 F250 4X4, AND A "GARRISON" POWER STEERING CONTROL-VALVE FROM A 73 F250 4X4. THE CONTROL VALVE TIE-ROD ENDS WERE ADJUSTED TO THE SAME LENGTH AS THE ORIGIONAL F100 4X4. THE ORIGIONAL PITMAN ARM NEEDED TO BE REAMED FOR THE NEW TIE-ROD END TAPER. THE ONLY OTHER MODIFICATION NEEDED WAS TO THE DRIVERS SIDE SHOCK TOWER.

1962 Ford F100 4x4

Has anybody found a power-steering box that fits a 61-66 4x4? The pitman arm shaft needs to go through the frame.

1965 f250 4x4

There are options with boxes ,internal rotation may need to be reversed.

Toy box conversion will keep it close to stock.

A front steer can be made with dash, firewall and hanger mods.
