Got some questions about my 460

im not entirely familiar with 460s as ive only got one and its the only one ive ever had. Up until now, all i ever messed with was small blocks. Anyway, I have a 460 and all casting numbers say 71 Lincoln engine. Of course its been put in a truck. Now heres where im kinda confused. I have a 79 ford truck. Originally it had a 351M, previous owner swapped to a 460. The engine vibrates like crazy! Now i have heard that a 351M flexplate has the same bolt pattern as a 460 flexplate. Is that true? I know my engine is internally balanced, and if he put the flexplate from the 351M on the 460, then thats the problem. Just tryin to learn a little somethin here. Thanks guys

Murph...Not sure about the '79 351 being externally balanced or not, but the '79-up 460's are externally balanced. The '71 Lincoln engine probably is internally balanced, so the flexplate may indeed be your problem. Hopefully, someone with more 351 knowledge will come along. You could try asking in the 351-appropriate forum.

Sooooo.....here's a bump for an excellent question.
