Wow Thank god for some normal people posting on this thread, after reading Beechkid's post I was like wow sounds like the "I knew this guy that got in trouble for everything ****". JP-8 works great in the 6.0s and the 6.4's, I haven't run it in my 6.7 yet, but will eventually. If everybody ALWAYS followed every single law ALL the time there wouldn't be freedom, only communist-dominating fools in the world.

Hey all, I'm new to the site and wanted to chime in. I have a 2006 6.0 and have tried this with success. I have read on a forum to mix the JP-8 with TC-W3 oil (the kind you use for 2 Cycle engines) at a ratio of 1oz per 3 gallons of JP-8. It said you could even bump it to 1oz per 2 gallons if you wanted to. The oil is ashless. Has anyone else heard of this/ tried running TC-W3?

ok so i'm new to the site and just read this thread. just wondering how (from a couple pages back) a guy has a 34 coupe he runs jet fuel in gets caught. if I had my guess it would be because I have never seen an old hot rod run on diesel or jet A. gasoline engines will not run on jet fuel, kind of puts out the fire. I could be wrong but this guy must have broken down on the road and even then I can't imagine a policeman giving him a ticket for anything other than being stupid enough to put kerosene in your gas tank. maybe it was the feds who were after him watching and waiting for him to run illegal fuel in his 80 year old car because of all the polution from such a high mileage vehicle. then again I think it was california.

If I may provide some FYI's.....

There are two items you must pay close attention to when changing types of fuel in vehicles....Flash Point & Auto Ignition Temperature. Flash point is the minimum temperature required for the substance to produce ignitable vapors and will ignite if an ignition source is introduced, Auto Ignition is the minimum temperate where not only are ignitable vapors produce but will automatically ignite Iie the heat itself is the ignition source). There is also a difference between Diesel oil & fuel...as fuel has a mix of up to 10% alcohol or gasoline to ensure it will ignite in cold conditions where oil does not have this and is not used in the transportation sectors.

For Diesel Fuel the flash point/auto ignition temperature in F is

Grade 1: 100/494
Grade 2: 125/494

For Jet A & Jet 1A....100/410

While the flash point is similar to Grade 1 diesel, the AIT is 84 degrees lower...this means a fire sooner.....while this produces more power it can also create issues.....detonation/too hot/fast of a burn ultimately increasing potential damage to valves/piston tops. IMHO, Grade 1 diesel provides the highest level of burn rate that is safe for the long haul so to speak and given the cost and potential penalties (especially buying it in a container at an airport or even filling the vehicle up at an airport, even for the operator (fueling station) its really a waste considering the fines vs what you can actually legally buy for less $ (as compared to Jet A)

Jet A and jet A1 (winter) have less btu than #1 kero and #2 diesel when jet is used in a on road vehicle 2-5% less hp. because less heat, less power. jet fuel has a different vapor pressure, it evaporates much like gas. and is clear as water, and will stay burning at 55,000 feet. ware Diesel #2 will not, a low altitude helicopter can run #2 if they have to. but will have high EGT's and risk damaging the engine most helicopters run on #1 kero as they mostly stay under 5,000 feet, I mix virgin 0-20 synthetic motor oil at 50/50 and diesel#2 and run it in my 91 idi run's great, no smoke.

I don't doubt there are people who have been fined, but all the stories seem apochryphal. Just once i'd like someone to post a picture of the ticket.
Childrens hospital of Los Angeles for one....twice on national news....second round included jail sentances for the execs (Physicans) for illegal transportation

I can also state, as part of a task force, I have personally "gone after & provided evidence for criminal prosecution" for illegal transportation, transfer & dispensing of aircraft fuel....on more occaisons than I can count....including one guy who purchased fuel for his general aviation airplane off site, brought in 55 gallon drums to fuel the plan himself....(he even lost hi plan to the feds for that one)....the "neighbor" whose neighbors didn't like the family for whatever reason.....turned them in...received a 10% reward through We-Tip national program......
I could go on....the smaller guys really don't like to advertise it....many are "prominent citizens...........

You are absolutely correct....there is much more to fuel blends than general spec's.....temp, humidity, altitude all are factored into the mixture..........
