Is the truck really a Lightning?

I met up with someone in a parking lot who had a 1993 F150 Flarside with a "for-sale" sign in the window. I started talking with him and he told me the truck had a 5.0 litre engine with the "official" Lightning package. Its got automatic, air and power windows/locks.
I never heard of or seen a Lightning with the flareside body. Is this truck really a Lightning truck? Its only got about 50,000 miles on it and if its really Lightning, is it worth the $10,000 the guy is asking for it?

I'm pretty sure that it isn't a Lightning. First of all, they didn't come in Flareside. Second thing, they all had the 5.8 351 V8 in them, not a 5.0. Perhaps the guy could have put some stuff on it that said Lighting or something, but I highly doubt it is a Lightning. As for the $10,000, I doubt it would be that much, maybe $8,500 tops. If it was truly an "L" then yes, but once again, I don't think it is.

Up here in canada those years of flaresides if they are in good condition and low miles are worth that much.

82' Flareside: zoom zoom doesn't even begin to describe it, 2/4 Drop, Soon to have 325hp 351 Clevo (maybe more,in a 3600lb truck)Backed by a C6 with a 2000 rpm stall and a 3.50 9 incher, American Racing AR-23 (series 23) wheels, Upgraded interior, Sony Xplod stereo

Is the truck really a Lightning?

I saw one at a dealership in Orange TX. back in early 1995?. It was a Lightning with a Flareside bed - it looked really cool. I stopped in a test drove it and the salesman told me a guy came in that wanted a Lightning with a flareside bed - and the guy had the cash to make it happen, so they took a black bed off of a flareside and put it on the Lightning for this guy - stickers and all. Well after that the salesman told me they started making several Lightning flaresides this way. I have not seen one since. I would check the 8th digit in the VIN# - if its an R then it's a Lightning - and a rare one at that!

Is the truck really a Lightning?

I called the guy this afternoon and met up with him again to find out more about the truck. Turns out, it is his son's truck that is for sale - but the son is "visiting the local jail" for a few months - and he doesn't know any more about the truck then what his son has told him.
Its not a Lightning, its a stock 93 F150 Flareside that has had some really nice engine dress-ups applied - what stuck out was the "Powered By Ford" valve covers. I think I might buy it anyways - its in good shape with low miles - and we don't see many Fords with the Flareside body up here - so now I've got three of em
Thanks for the input everyone

Is the truck really a Lightning?

I have seen alot of different combinations of Ford trucks with Lighting parts. If it is a real Lightning, the eighth digit in the VIN# will be an "R".
I have seen a lot of trucks with the Lightning Engine (351w/ 5.8L).
I have also seen some trucks that had similiar setups from the factory, like the Oil filter/Cooler configuration.
but most all owners know how to tell if its the real thing, the VIN.
good luck
