I must live in a protected zone. Most big storms tear up the suburb immediately to the west of me and then split to take out trees and power lines just a couple miles or so south or north of me. In 13 years here I lost power once for 2 hours and once of 8 hours and never had trees come down. When I moved two years ago I moved 6 short blocks due west, which kept me in the "protected zone."

Been here through a few little hurricanes and some small twisters, nothing much to speak of. They give more than enough hurricane notice to batten down the hatches or leave to leave the area. Luckily Andrew didn't come this far north so I've never been through one to that extreme.
Main reason I'm still down here is because there's no way I can talk my husband (native Floridian) into moving to cold country.
Plus, after being here for 26 years, I'm not sure I want to deal with snow. I like the winters here, although I would like a little cooler than it gets. Also, my mom lives down here and we get along real well.
Can't think of any other reasons. It's just the way it is. Home.
