Wiriing back up light and more

I need to wire in a back up light and a hand held cb. I used to just plug them into the accessory spots in the fuse box, however I can’t seem to find any unused/accessory fuse opening that has power. Any ideas and or how did you do it?

I wired mine up to the battery and onto a switch though alot of people wire them to your reverse light and also tap in a switch.

I did just what Justin here said, I wired to the trailer back up light though. Not the truck back up wiring. I then added my own switch as well.

I use a product called Add-a-circuit. You should be able to find them at AutoZone, Checker, O'Reilly's, etc. You figure out which fuses are accessory-powered and pull the fuse, then this thing fits in and allows the original fuse to go in, as well as a new circuit with a wire pigtail hanging out the side. I had to do some cuttin on the fuse box cover to route the wires out, but it seems pretty clean.

As for the back up lights, it's best to use at least 1 relay so the lights are powered directly off the battery. Then you have options of switches, the back up lights or both to turn the accessory lights on. I had a Trailblazer before this truck, and with the auto-headlights I wired my extra back up lights to come on when in reverse, only if the headlights were on. Then I had a switch I could use to turn them on as well...great for tailgaters!

Let me know if you'd like a little more info. Wiring seems to be the only thing about vehicles I don't have to ask for help on!

Updates:

I found a 6 circuit fuse box that I was going to add, I'll run a new wire from the battery to the new fuse box. This way I would have enough room for the back up light, cb, plow light etc.; everything will still have its own switch.
Is the extra fuse box a bad idea, anyone ever done it?

Phix

P.S. Would it matter which battery I ran the power for the new fuse box from?

Do a search on back up lights. There was a thread full of back up light pics a while back.
