Has anyone ever heard of the Overboost Anyallator From SP DIESEL?They claim to increase boost from 5 to 10 psi on a stock 7.3 diesel. They are selling them on EBAY for 50 bucks with free delivery. I was wondering if you could feel more power or will it only help with a chip or programer. My engine is stock exept for intake and exhaust.

 

You can get them at ITP for $44 I think, OR you can build your own like Brandon did Keeps people wondering what you have under there.

 

i just checked there site and they are 45 bucks on there, but are electronicly controled not in the boost line like the ITP ones, i cant see only that increasing boost though, all they say it does on there site is stop the engine de-fueling when the boost is pushed over 25 psi, like what the ITP one states as doing.
one thing i have to get as my check engine light comes on if i bury the foot for to long LOL

 

From what I recall an OBA only prevents the MAP sensor from seeing too much boost and causing the SES light to trip and the truck to defuel.

 

Correct. The only time it "gives" you more boost is if you have a chip or tuner pushing 25+ psi of boost, and you go into an overboost condition. The unit from SP Diesel works electronically to limit what the map sensor reads to the PCM, where the OBA limits the map reading ahead of the sensor. Both end up achieving the same results.

To be realistic, if your truck doesn't have a chip or tuner, or doesn't have a powerful enough tune to push you close to 25 psi, then those items won't do a single thing for you. By themselves they don't give you any additional boost. Rather they simply prevent the PCM from defaulting into a defueling mode after it sees an overboost condition.

 

Ok so if I get a chip or programmer in a few months would I need this thing, or would the chip or programmer prevent the over boost or defueling? Im sorry if I sound like an idiot, but this is my first diesel and Im looking for better performance and milage with out hurting the engine. I am also thinking about the Preditor programmer for the plug in and use and the code reading. Pulling out the PCM to install a chip makes me nervous. It took me 5 hours and a dozen beers to install my guages. In my life I find that if things can go wrong then they usually do!!!

 

Pulling the PCM takes all of 10 minutes, and installing a good chip in there is super easy. I would stay away from the off-the-shelf type programmers unless you like buying expensive transmissions. Depending on what you do for a chip or programmer you may not need an OBA- Jody at DP Tuner has "No code" tunes that keep the usual codes (ICP out of range, overboost, etc) from being set by the PCM. If you go with something else, you'll want a fooler.
