coolant leak

04 F-350, w/ 6.0

have a coolant leak that starts some where on top of the engine. The coolant runns down the back left side of the engine, and drips off the starter. It doesn't do it all the time. Sometime it only leaks a little and other times it leaks a bunch, and other times not at all. I have crawled under the truck and climbed all over the top and cant't see where it's comming from. Has anyone else had this problem? What am I over looking? I replaced the water pump and the radiater hoses last year. Its not the water pump I have checked it. A bud of mine said to check some hase for the egr valve. Where is this hase at and what size is it?

Thanks Guys<!-- / message -->

10 to 1 it's the egr cooler hose. Just to the left of the oil filter housing down in the valley. If it's never been changed it's probably an orange hose.

Also check the heater valve. There is a single philips head screw on the top and they tend to leak around it. It is located next to the passenger side valve cover, directly above the starter.
Mine leaked for months and I was never able to find it, then I read the following post by Jay Bird and figured it out.

possible egr cooler hose leak. cos if ur egr cooler or oil cooler are busted, they're usually busted internally. they jus wont cool, and u'll see tat hot ticker jumping to the hot zone. it sounds manageable. best of luck man! let us know wat it is or wat u find.

Well I found it. It is not leaking at this time, thats the way it goes, when ya want it to leak it's not. I'll think I will replace it anyway. Looks like the best way to tackle this to to take off the pipe that goes to the turbal, if I take that plate off wear the torx screws are at. (front of the hose) Does that whole thing come up.
I have turned a few wrenches before, I replaced the water pump, and ball joint through these forums. the truck has 223,555 mostly trouble free miles. Thanks folks!

To the Problem When your looking for this Leak it would help to have the truck up to normal operating temp and have a little Pressure on the system

Maybe you did IDK just a thought here
