As a temporary measure, I've heard of people poking a small hole in the boot (if there is not a hole already) and squirting some grease inside. Then clean the area real good and use a dab of silicone to seal the hole.
Look for the small tubes of grease at the local autparts store that have a pointed tip.
Boots are pretty much gone I'm afraid. I was thinking of some sort of spray lubricant. I might have to apply it daily, but it would beat listening to my truck creak and groan.
I actually did this yesterday on my 2000. The upper joint on the pass. side has a torn boot, and it was creaking everytime I turned the wheel. I just shot it full of grease and secured the boot as best I could. The squeaking stopped, it's amazing how annoying that kind of noise can get after a while.
Are there any grease fittings or places to connect grease fittings on those? I have squeaks on my '97 Explorer and couldn't find any place to grease it other than squirt some grease inside the boots as mentioned.
My '99 Ranger did not come with grease zerks,(puchased used in 2002 with 47,000) but I was changing the oil and checked the front end for lube-ended up I drilled 1/8 inch holes in the top of the upper ball joints, and the same on the lowers, and installed zerks-130,000 around the corner with the original ball joints, but at last oil change I noticed one the uppers has a tear in it, so it looks like I'm in for a replacement..........
