Allen - I just checked and I have it. Thank you. Bill - I wrote to jermafenser as you suggested, thank you. Tim, I have some doubts about the VIN, since the body is off the frame I'll go find the frame VIN, thank you.
You all have been very helpful. I look forward to getting my baby on the road in a few weeks and I'll post some pictures. It won't be a yellow truck any more.

1967/72's are "Bumpsides" / Have a raised scallop line down the sides.
1973/79's are "Dentsides" / Have a concave half moon shaped 'dent' down the sides.
Where are the parking lamps on your truck? Above (1973/77) or below (1967/72) the headlamps?

1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog on a CD and ask him to scan and post the following:
ILLUSTRATION SECTION 36, PAGE 10 (1973/75 F100 4WD P/S Hose, Pump and P/S Linkage Assy).
ILLUSTRATION SECTION 36, PAGE 12 (Garrison P/S Control Valve).

Just a dumb question but did you by chance check your door vin tag # against your frame vin number? Frame vin # is stamped on the frame top side just in front of passenger side firewall. This might answer a lot of the questions? The PO might have swapped the body onto later year frame!

The frame does look like a 73-79 1/2 ton 4WD (unless 67-72s use the same parts). Does it have disc or drum brakes in the front?
The frame VIN can be found by cleaning the top surface of the passenger side frame rail in the engine bay area.

That is very helpful.
It has manual drums all the way around. The truck is a good distance from where I live so it will take a few days to get the second VIN, I am posting the door VIN and a picture of the frame (not that obvious but it is probably typical of a mid stage restoration).
I suspect that what happened was the original owner did this in the late 70's or early 80's. The VIN will clear that up.

I will get the frame number today. Interesting that when I got it the truck was yellow and there is no evidence of green where we have ground it down to the metal, which has been done over about 75% of the sheet metal. I can't find a colour reference for "empire green" on the web so I don't really know what it looked like.
I paid $1,300 for it, by the time I have it back on the road It will have cost me close to $30,000 (I don't have the time, tools, shop, or most important, skills to a renovation myself), but my view is that it will be as good or better than the truck was new, and I'll have a reliable driver. If I went and bough a new truck it would cost about the same, and then I'd have the same truck eveyone else has.

The Ford parts catalog shows K = Empire Green.
The Ford color chip chart shows K = Yellow.

Bill - that explains why my truck is/was yellow (it will be red and black when we are done).
The guy doing the restoration looked for me where Tim said the frame VIN would be - top of the frame on the passenger side ahead of the firewall - but he couldn't find it. He did some scraping and used a solvent. He will be sandblasting the frame on Thursday and will look again. I see from one of your earlier posts about VIN locations that they can sometimes be found on the engine cross member or the left side near the steerig box. We will look again on Thursday.

Stamping the VIN there may only have been done in San Jose, I dunno for sure.
This truck has been owned by me since I bought it new in March 1965, so I know that VIN has always been there.
One member here said he's never seen a VIN stamped in that location,
However, since he lives on the east coast, I doubt he's seen too many CA assembled trucks...and bothered looking there for a VIN...if he had seen any.
btw: Where was your truck assembled? San Jose, California.
