CAI? Bed Liner? Where do I shop?

Im having trouble finding some simple stuff for my 08 v10"Gas" to get better fuel effecietncy. As like a cold Aid intake and a good programmer or tuner. any suggestions please? and i would like put some rhino liner in my bed. i called a local place that installs it but they priced my 6 ft bed around 500-700 $ to install it. Any suggestions on this? please helps.

Thanks: Andy

I'm almost positive its the same for the V10, but on the 5.4 V8 the CAI does nothing, if not makes performance worse because we already have a CAI stock.

Also, on the bed liner, I wouldn't go with a Rhino-liner. my '04 has one and it's chipped in a couple places where my Dad's truck has a Line-X and it looks as good as the day it was sprayed in. And the $500-$700 is about right for a spray-in bed liner on a used truck. It's typically less for a new truck because they don't do as much prep work.

The single best thing to get good mileage with a V10 is to be very gentle with the gas pedal. I can get a difference of 4 mpg easily depending on how I drive. Another thing is the horrid winter gas, I get 2 mpg worse just with that compared to summer blend. I ws poking $80 a week into the tank of my V10 SD before I gave in and just started driving my older Mustang GT every day. You might find that buying a $1500 beater that gets good mileage might make more sense than just using a 3/4 ton truck as a daily driver. As for the roll-on stuff, I wouldn't bother.

No, I have yet to find anyone who has done a DIY bedliner and been happy with it a year later.

Your vehicle already has a cold air intake that works well. Adding an aftermarket CAI will do nothing.

Basically, there isn't much of anything you can do to these gas engines to get better gas mileage except modify your driving habits. Drive by the tachometer, never exceed 2000 RPM. (Yes, it can be done, but it will drive you crazy at first).

Here are things you can do, but all little things with a little gain.

Leave your tailgate on and up, or get a bed cover. (Don't expect much here).

Get ALL of the excessive weight out of the truck. No tools, trailer hitch, shovel, tow strap, etc. etc.

Smaller mirrors may help a bit.

Run your tires at the door sticker pressure.

Larger and wider tires increase rolling resistance. Get small, skinny tires.

there is just advertising hype for the Krap & Nothing intake! save your money, and get a tuner over that stuff. there was a member on here that did a dyno comparison with stock, modified stock, all the way up to the full kit. he netted about 7 RWHP with the whole kit. so $300= 7rwhp, and no better mileage.

there are TONS of good things reported about 5 star tuning and the V10. over all it seems that is more worth the money than other things.

as for the lining, if you want quick and cheap, get you a DIY type. i've had the rhino lining in my F250 for 11 years now, and only have a couple peel spots on the tail gate, this was mainly due to the company that put it on did not sand off the paint. but all in all it still is holding strong. the liner was put on in 2000, i purchased the truck in 2003.
