Ordering 2009 F250 V10 and have a question
Hey guys,
New here but have been lurking for several months. I am active duty military about to return states side and taking advantage of the overseas military new car sales.
I just placed an order on a new F250 V10 Crew Cab with the 4.30 rear. I am getting pretty close to retirement and the DW and I plan on pulling a fifth wheel and touring the states. The issue is I waited a little longer then I should have to place my order. In my hast I asked for the camper package. After I read further that it is for a slide in type camper and will beef up my front spring with heavy duty. It also gives me the anti-sway bar for the rear.
Now normally I would just say for $130 bucks - no worries. But I am really worried that the heavy duty springs are going to make this truck ride like rail when I do not have a load. I know that our trucks do not ride like a caddy but is this going to rattle all my teeth?
Thanks and this is a GREAT Forum!

Ditto wiingnut. I ordered my '05 with the camper package to get the rear stabilizer and for the front springs. The camper package also includes the rear auxiliary springs (overloads):
CAMPER PACKAGE (471)
Availability:
• Optional on all F-250 Pickups
Not available with:
• 20" Wheels and Tires, Pickup Box Delete (66D), Stabilizer Package
(63B) or Heavy Service Suspension Package (67H)
Includes:
• Extra heavy service front springs 4x2 (2 Up upgrade above the spring
computer selected as a consequence of options chosen. Not incl. if
maximum springs have been computer selected as standard
equipment)
• Heavy service front springs (4x4) (1 Up upgrade above the spring
computer selected as a consequence of options chosen. Not incl. if
maximum springs have been computer selected as standard
equipment)
• Rear stabilizer bar
• Slide-in camper certification
• Rear auxiliary springs
NOTE: Salesperson's Source Book or Ford RV Trailer Towing
Guide should be consulted for specific trailer towing or
camper limits and corresponding req. equipment, axle
ratios and model availability
I test drove several with and without the camper package before ordering mine and I can tell very little difference between the two. The truck rides very well for an F-250 and doesn't come close to rattling teeth out. Matter of fact, it rides as well as my '03 Expy. I think you'll be fine and if you get the 5th wheel, you'll probably be glad you got the camper pkg.

Welcome!
While it will be stiffer than normal, the normal is SOOOOOO much more reasonable (re: comfortable and actually a SUSPENSION) than what trucks were just a few years ago. What were you driving before?
The HD of today is more compliant than standard of yesterday.
It may be a bit firm when empty, but with your 5'er, you'll love it.

Thanks guys! I had an F150 prior to moving over seas. You should see what I am driving here in Japan
I recall my granddad's 1983 F250 back in the day (my Father still drives it today) and regardless if you were in the field or the road it would shake teeth loose. Now I know we have made vast improvements from then! My2004 F150 was great but I was worried about this one with out a load.
Good to know and I think that I will be happy with it with the 5th wheel as well! I must say that by reading this forum was the deciding factor on the v10 vs the PSD. I love ford and would by no other truck. Shoot look at the one my Dad still drives and it runs strong! So to say that a PSD will out live a gasser I say blah!
Not to mention I got the 7 year 70,000 mile warranty for just 800 bucks!

Jock,
This is why I wanted to order vs picking off the lot. I might have gotten a better deal with the economy now but having the chance to order from Ford and get what I want at a discount, well we know what I did.
I have a question for you. In your signature it says that you have the 2008 V10 with a 2.73 rear. Is this right?? If so how does that work for you in pulling?

It must be a typo, as they do not come with 2.73 gears.
They do come with 3.73 gears though.
