So why are the 99 And up 7.3 so quiet? Has anyone tride to make their 7.3 quiet? Maybe a head swap? I thought they were pretty much the same engine as ours.

 

All 7.3s have the same sound, are are very loud IMO. the 6.0s and 6.4 are quiet.

 

I didn't think so, IMO the 99 and up at least have a different sound from the engine it self, Maybe they have more sound dampering material in the fenders, hood and fire wall?

 

the newer body style does make it a bit quieter inside, and the split-shot injectors seem to be a bit quieter as well, but once you get some miles on them all the 7.3s sound the same

 

matt, i agree with you on the 6.0 and 6.4's. if i have my windows rolled up in my 4 cylinder tbird i cant even hear either of them if they are beside me at a red light. i took my wife for a test drive in a 6.4 a while back and she said it didnt even sound like a real truck lol.

 

I agree, never really noticed the 99+ being quieter. The 6.0s are definitly quieter than the 7.3's, and if you ask me the 6.4 is defintly quieter than the 6.0

 

split shot injection helps the db level some, also helps with vibration, thats what your hearing.

 

My 02 is much quiter inside than my old 96. More insulation ans sound deadening.

 

The split shot injectors are quieter. Inside its has much to do with the injectors and insulation

I don't know if i'm allowed to post here or not, but i have a buddy at school that i park next to, with him having a 97 7.3 and me having a 03 7.3, his trucks certainly drowns mine out when we are parked next to each other. His motor sounds loud as hell!!

No problem, Thanks for agreeing with me, Some of these guys must have hearing problems, My 95 is much louder than the 99-03s. I also have mods done to mine and the chip makes it louder.

 

I couldn't agree more. Those old Single shots really make em knock.
