94 ranger weird noise

Did you look at the driveshaft, especially the U joints, to see if something is wrapped around it and is hitting the body as the shaft or joint turns. I could be something loose in one of the brake drums that is rattling. Does the sound seem louder on one side of the truck that the other side? It could be a nail or bolt stuck in a tire, as well. Jack up the rear end, start it up and put it in gear. Walk around the truck and see if you can locate the sound. If it seems to be around a wheel, shut everything down. Turn each wheel by hand. Does anything rattle or squeak? If you have hub caps, pull them off to see if lug nuts are loose/ if the wheel is loose. Feel around the tread and edges of the tires to see if something is sticking out of them. Let us know what you find.
