first time painting

I just finished painting my 79 f350 , I used a acrylic enamel paint the color is white. In alot of areas there is shiny spots and in places dulled out spots. Is there anyway to make the paint job look more even. mostly the hood looks bad.Any tips would be appreiated.

Its mainly all about technique. The speed of the gun, overlaping, as well as proper atomization and air pressure and so on. Those dull spots are dry spots. It happens when there wasnt enough paint sprayed on to flow out over the surface being painted. but then again theres that fine line between to little and to much paint. Its alot easyer to repaint or polish a panel thats had dry spots that one with big hanging runs on it.. A light sanding with 2000 and a polish should blend then hood together a little more evenly. Its all about practice, practice, practice.

For polishing i use an electric polisher, but with a little more effort you can get the same results buy hand. I use 3M Rubbing Compound II for the initial polish. Then i finish with 3M Machine Glaze or a similar product. Be very carefull when blending out runs or defects in paint. You only want to make the imperfections less noticeable, not to remove them totally. To much work on the paint will only damage the paint furthur.
