Awesome truck
I've driven diesels since I was 14 working on a vegetable farm. I started out on an old 1988 IDI F250 no turbo blah blah....and I've driven trucks with the diesels from every generation on. I purchased my 2008 F-250 new. I actually ordered it because the dealer didn't have exactly what I wanted and I wasn't about to compromise on a 40,000$+ truck.
My F-250 is a regular cab, 8foot bed, 4x4, XLT. With the standard transmission, and 3.55 gear set. I think the gear set in my rear makes to truck do as well as it does on fuel milage. I'm currently getting a steady 17.2 mpg between city and highway driving. I took the truck on a trip to PA from CT and got a steady 19.5mpg empty. I tow a lot with my truck I run a small on-the-side car transport business and usually move one to two cars a weekend. I average around 16.5-18.0mpg depending on the vehicle I'm towing, distance, hills, traffic conditions etc. My truck is a little slow off the line because I opted for the lower gears but once I'm out of first the thing flies if I push it.
Turbo-lag is a considerable amount more than the 7.3L, Though I've read on a few other places that the addition of a better intake resolved the problem.
