I assume from the forum you are in that you are working on a 94.5 - 97 PowerStroke diesel. CLICK HERE to go to a picture of how I did mine and a description of what it took. I had to get a 5" clamp to go over the "snout" on the air filter. I also used what is called a constant torque clamp to keep it tight without crushing anything.
Stoney like neal said and what I used is a black pvc ell it is just the right length and yes pull stock air box out and put in garage or on ebay. When it comes time to change filter check fleetfilter sales they are 1/2 the price of napa for same thing it is a Baldwin filter can't remember the part # but tell them napa 6637 and they can cross it for you. Just tuck the ambient air sensor up under fender. Good luck.
believer, thank you for the picture and info ill work on it wednesday.thanks again jeep napa already got me for 58.00 ill know better next time.thanks alot guys!
The arrow is the 45* 3" schedule 40 elbow. It is hooked into the stock intake hose.
Now in this picture the bottom arrow shows how my filter wasnt elavated and rubbed through fender well. The top arrow was my solution for this problem. I pushed the filter back and raised it an inch. Put the closed end of the canister filter on that piece and let it go. The stock intake hose has enough pressure to push it against that part and hold it there.
If you look at how mine lays out I think the 45 degree would help it set better on the inner fender. You can also get a band clamp that will hold the filter to the inner fender if you want to dress things up a bit.
It sets great now, and Dale at tymar told me for the filter to work correctly it has to be elavated so it can breath underneath too. Maybe he was just trying to sell his product though. But that rub mark was from before I elavated it. I looked at your picture but if I am going to spend any money on metal bends I'm doing it metal from the boot on the turbo to the filter. I know one guy who did that and it looks awesome.
it dosent get any better than that kevin! thank you much, thats were i was stuck wondering if i had to replace the stock intake hose or do just what you and believer did.do you guys ever have any problem with water getting in ?

No issues with mud, snow, water, anything since 8/7/2001 when I first installed mine, somewhere around 135,000 miles since then.
