Just wondering if any of you guys in here have inverters, and if so which brand do you guys use? I'm looking for something that would fit in the glove box likely.
I got one behind my seat. Not totally sure what brand, but it might be a Peak. Its a 750 watt/1500 max... it could possibly fit in a completely empty glove box.
I have the Xantrex 1500 watt hooked up to 4 deep cycle batts. Never had an issue with anything I wanted to power and length of time.
They sell sizes for whatever your need dictates.
Glove box shouldn't be a problem, it's open to the interior of the dash.
You can find them less expensive on Amazon and eBay though. Here is a page with descriptions:
Original plan was to use it for a small surround system to put in the bed of my truck at the drive in theatre. I only have one charger for my mp3 player and its hooked to the inverter. Last time I bought a cell phone it didn't come with a car charger so I used the inverter for that a few times.
As far as heat goes... Mine is pretty sandwiched behind my seat and I've never felt it actually get hot.
My truck is a crew cab, so I do have a lot of room behind the back seat, but unfortunately that is to far away for that. Do you know off hand what the dimensions of your inverter are?
Thanks for the links Steve, I would prefer something hard wired and hidden, although something like that isn't so bad, just keep it in the glove box until it is needed.
really depends how much current you need out of it.... big difference between 300 watts and 3000 watts... I have a Vector 3K watt unit that was first in my RV now going to get mounted under the second row seats. got it off ebay brand new, same brand pep boys sells... keep in mind if its under a few hundred bucks its modified sine wave True sine wave inverters are about 4x the price for same wattage.. I have a 1200 wat Tripp lite 1200 true sine wave in the rv... sensitive electronics should have true sine wave inverters... the one I have came out of an ambulance
What do you use yours for Brice? I'm just looking for something to use on long trips if someone forgets her car charger for her cell phone again!
For that light of a load, I'd just get one of the small plugin self-contained modular units. They're simple and will handle a laptop computer without any problem. You can buy them at Sam's club for about $30 for a pack of two of them.
