ya a 9 inch wouldbe in my truck if the speed sensor deal wasnt a problem. but instead i had to just by more gears for the lousy 8.8 and keep running it. if i wanted to go to like a 10.25 out of a bigger truck, do they have speed sensors on the rear end?

yes the late model F-250s have the speed sensor in the rear. I have a '96 F-250 donor truck that I'll sell you the rear end.

something you could try is put a yoke in the tranny pull the driveshaft and put it in drive, if the speedo works then that means you can ditch the 8.8 for a 9in

The wires coming from the tailshaft where the speedo cable mounts, link the VSS (in-line with cable at transmission/transfercase) to the engine computer and cruise control. The speed sensor in the rear end was only used for RABS on 87-91 trucks.

Ok being that my F series was one of the early EFI 351's(no longer in car) in Australia & has never had cruise control is there any way to use the wire's to run the cruise or do they only register motion not the actual speed.

I'm not really sure to be honest. The VSS should give an actual speed as far as I know.
