Sylvania "Xenarc" HID's
Posting this one again, because the title got cut short for whatever reason.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
They are not installed yet, but just recieved them yesterday. The assembly is beautiful. Its not just a bulb and ballast, it also includes the housing. Ill have it setup in a few days though.
Ill try and get some pictures up on my site tonight or the actual assemblies.

Sylvania "Xenarc" HID's
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Feb-02 AT 12:34 PM (EST)]No, I paid the $899 from Sylvania, the Speed Shop i usually go through didnt have any accounts with sylvania, so i just went direct. I guess i didnt research the price as well as i should have. It was one of those "As soon as i saw them, I had to have them!" type deals.

That reminds me of a project I started but am unlikely to have time to complete
during the next couple years because of a HUGE project I've undertaken.
Anyway, I bought two brand new Philips auto HID ballasts which are rated to
start and run metal halide bulbs up to 35 watts from 12 volt automotive DC
systems. My intended project was to use these in a dual capacity. While driving in
the motorhome, they would power genuine standard 32 watt HID headlamp bulbs.
When camping, we thought we'd have one available to run our outside 35 watt
metal halide campsite light. These 35 watt metal halides can screw directly into
standard domestic lamp bases. The other ballast would let us light up the living
room/kitchen area with the equivelant amount of light as a 140 watt tungsten light
bulb, but with much more pleasing "color temperature" and without heavily loading
our "house" battery.
Metal halide bulbs typically convert about 80% of their feed electric power into
light, with only about 20% waste heat. Typical tungsten filament lamps convert
about 80% into waste heat and only about 20% into useful light. They cost a LOT
more initially, but they're much more efficient.

Sylvania "Xenarc" HID's
Hmm,
just saw this ad in Truckin' and Truckin's SUV for HID lights from McCulloch (the chainsaw co!).
www.mccullochmotors.com and www.mccullochpower.com (takes you to the mccullochmotors site).
seems they have several new HID lights for cars and some HID work lights. They even have an HID flashlight! Now thats something I can use out camping!
