Driver's heated/cool seat doesn't work properly

Hi, the h/c feature in my 05 Navi works for about 5 minutes then shuts off and will not work until the vehicle is restarted. Also I noticed the blower on the bottom portion of my seat doesnt seem to work, could it be the issue?

Blower motor is shot. I had the same issue with my '04 Expedition. 300 something to fix at the dealer. I didn't go after doing it alone because i never figured it would be that much to fix.

Thanks alwaysford41, but I found the problem, the duct that connects the blower to the module on the bottom of the seat had torn. As a temp fix, I reconnected the two pieces with duct tape.

Result: This morning I rode to work with warm buns!!!

Tape is a great fix. Doesn't explain the "early shut off" you described though.

Well, it ran for 15 minutes this morning then turn off automatically. I was able to turn it back on for remainder of my drive (25min total). According to my other half, she read the drivers seat normally operates 15 min heat and 30 mins cool before powering off automatically.

Those times are correct, in your original post you had said 5 minutes and it wouldn't reset, which is typical of the blower problem.

This is kind of off topic, but I have a Lincoln LS with the heated and cooled seats. They will stay on heat or cool until the cows come home! My Navigator does the same run for whatever - something like 15 minutes before turning off. Is this a "feature"? If so, why does the same basic product in two different Lincolns operate differently? Anybody?

In my 99 Expy the heated seat would stay on as long as you left it on, not sure about when it changed, maybe when they went to heated / cooled? Not so sure it is a feature, but it is how it performs. Heat for 15 minutes, cool for 30.

Blower starts but stops in 10 seconds

I am new to this expedition...I have only owned it 3 days now. This morning I turned on the seat heater with everything quiet and I can hear the fan start blowing, but it shuts off in about 10 seconds.

The passenger side starts and runs with out stopping and the seat became warm.

Still sounds like the blower, my diagnosis hasn't changed over night.

AlwaysFords 41 - help me understand your diagnosis?

I disassembled my seat this last weekend to have a look at the components. When I start up my seat heating system the fan blows very well and as good as the passenger side but then stops in 10 seconds every time. You say your diagnosis is the fan, but there are many components to this system....many of which it seems could be telling the fan to stop when another component might not be working correctly. Do you have additional insight to this system that says it is the fan motor other than that is what worked on your truck? I am curiuos to know your thoughts before I start just swaping out componets at $100 or more a pop.

I am going by how my seat acted when it failed. It would activate for a few seconds, then turn off. It would not restart. If you turned the car off and recycled the key it would give another 10 seconds or so. It wasn't that the blower was not coming on or siezed, the fan draw was too much and kept causing the system to shut down. It didn't blow fuses, but somewhere in the controls it shut down. New fan, no problems.
