The door speakers are 6" inch round speakers or you can fit 6.5" but i would go with 6" since some 6.5" are to big and won't fit, a good idea would be to get a insert to protect them from moisture, i have seen people use old margarine containers, just to keep the rain that may leak from the window and down into the door and on to the speaker
also there is a dash speaker, its a 4x6 speaker, you can fit other sizes in there, since 4x6 is hard to get, and you can always use the dash speaker as a cb speaker or you can use it as a center speaker and then put the second speaker (speakers are sold in pairs) behind the bench seat in a box with some sub woofers! just a idea?

you sure can use a modern cd player, it does require some modification, i have to do the same thing to my truck, the best example i can show you is from a older thread,
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...dio-ideas.html
look at the pictures fmc400 posted, that is the modification you have to make to the bracket that holds the radio and the heater control module, and you have to cut the plastic dash to allow the wider modern cd player to fit, the cd deck in the picture is the same cd player i have, and it was kinda neat to get a future look at what it will look like in a dentside (73-79) ford truck dash, i am really far away in my trucks frame off resto to be worrying about the audio! lol hope this info helps!

ARS!...KNICKERS!!...NUN!!!..worse...I was born in England and have been in Canada for 35 years..hehehe...it was a great show!...not many know about it. A friend of a friend has one of those radio's with external amplification and apparently sounds good.....the CD a few years ago would have bothered me but even this old dinosaur got a Zune and it is great and will plug right into that radio...and don't have to cut the dash up either.

If you do not run the outer ring on the ouside of a 6.5" speaker, you can fit it right in the stock opening without any modification. In fact this rather thick 6.5" Cerwin Vega fit perfectly by removing this outer ring, and placing it behind the speaker itself. It was only a very thing ring, but gave the speaker the right amount of space to fit perfectly behind the original door panel.

I have 6 1/2 Jensen's (I know they're crappy but I've had them a while) in the doors of mine and they fit great. I'm building a custom fiberglass center console to hold two Sony 6X9's, my gauges, and my Kenwood EQ. I'm putting together a sound system for my truck out of stuff I've had in previous cars and stuff I got cheap off e-bay. It's gonna rock!

im running s jensen flip down with two 6.25 sony explodes in the doors along with two kicker comp cvrs behind the seat powered by two 500 old school rocks and lets just say it will knock every picture of the wall in the house. done it many of times and having to go in an put the pictures back on the walls and straightening them sucks lol. every body says that they caan hear me a .25 mile away lol. use a sealed box behind your seat or it will sound like ****. also if your a tall person over 6'1 id recomend using tens as twelves set your seat up a little. also remeber its not about buying the best equipment its about building the best sound, i have owned several matching systems such as a complete kenwood setup (radio, amps, subs, speakers) and to be honest it sounded like crap. and every trucks stereo will sound different no matter what you do. ive built stereo system in many of the vehicles that run around in my town and every one ive built was made up of different peices.

Dash speaker for the CB + a PA horn under the hood. It helps too that I could flip a switch and change from elect. to air horns. The air can also be used to blow up mattresses for camping. I'm thinking about getting a 2d air pump and adding semi air horns under the hood. I'd like to get a train horn for some of the few idiots on the road. Decent idea = change the car/truck electric horns for a set of boat horns, they're about the same size.
