Smile New member, old four speed transmission issue. (no first or second gear)

Good morning.

I found this forum last night when I was searching for some answers regarding what could be wrong with the transmission in the 1984 F-150 4X4 I just purchased.

It is a 300 CI 6 cyl. with the old 4 speed transmission.

I am told that the transmission is from an 1981 F-150.

Regardless, the transmission will not catch 1st or 2nd gear and has a new clutch installed. With the top cover off it will go into these gears by manually placing them in gear so I believe the issue is repairable.

I have not had to work on one of my trucks in a long time, so I am a little rusty and seeking guidance.

What do you mean by "not catch"? If you are saying it will go in gear sitting still, but once you let the clutch out it pops out, then a rebuild will fix it.

No.

There is no first and second gear, with or without the clutch.

I suspect that the fork is not working.

Just watch what happens (or doesnt happen) while someone works the shifter. I've seen broken roll pins on shifter shafts cause that
