Oil Filter Wrench

Hi,

Can anyone tell me where I can a tool to fit the oil and fuel filter caps of the 2008 6.4L engine? It looks like a regular 6pt socket size, but I don't have a caliper to measure it to know whether a metric vs. standard size would work. Does anyone know where the tool can be purchased or what size it is?

thx

I have seen/read the answer to your question somewhere in these forums. I want to say it is in the 40mm range. The answer will surface before long.

I found one here that I think will work: Amazon.com: Lisle 14500 Oil Filter Socket: Automotive

Now I just need to find out what the torque spec is on the cap... cause it looks like it'd be easy to crack if over tightened. Anyone know what that spec is?

thx

3/8" drive ratchet fits that socket, "wrist" tight is plenty.

Just go down to your local Autozone and look in the filter wrench section, that's where I got mine at for about $9.

36mm 3/8 drive

Confirming above.

I bot a 36 mm 3/8" drive shallow aluminum fuel filter socket. Sears did not have it in stock, but if you buy it at a SEARS store, they pay the freight. Mine cost $11.00 with tax.

Some of the auto stores try to talk you into buying a steel 1/2" or 3/4" drive socket. The aluminum socket is perfect.

The torque specs are on both caps. I always use a 3/8 drive torque wrench and torque them to the specs on the caps just to be safe.

The torqe specs and directions are in the box with the new filter, it is 27Nm or 18lbs-ft as listed in the napa gold oil filter with cap included, also listed on some of the oil caps. some filters do not come with the caps, however the newer production do. I hope this was a help!

I would not use the Napa as they are a will fit A/M filter as evidenced by the new cap and adapter. Stick with Motorcraft/ Racor / International for best results. Just my opinion but that has been backed up by many on this and other websites. Your engine and warranty will thank you.
