I was wondering if any one had this problem before, I need to get a new column. I have had a mechanic look at it, and he said that I need a new tilt column.

 

How about a little more info on what year truck, and if the column is original or not.

Okay I have a 1992 Ford F-150 XLT 302 EFI, and the tilt steering is the original column

 

 

On most tilt columns (admitting not having a F-150 in front of me) there can be two types of looseness.

From the bearings around the steering shaft (unlikely) or from the plastic retainer that positions the column itself.

If you can move the wheel, but, not the column, the column needs to be rebuilt.

If the whole assembly moves then look towards the bottom of the column and where it is attached for the cure.
