My 99 currently has about 150,000 and going a strong as when it was new. It does have abotu a dozen rattles though but thats alright. Got to get something newer now... and I cant give up my stick shift... so Super Duty it is. Oh yeah I need to haul and tow a bit more too...

I'm looking at a 2004 f150 lariat super crew 4x4 5.4 with 144,000 miles for $9000 body and interior are really clean. It needs a windshield and tires and he has no service records so it will need the fluids changed in front and rear diffs, trans, transfer case, power steering and brake sys. So right away I'm looking at spending $2200 and if it needs brakes $3100. This seemed like a good place to ask what I should look for as problems. I plan on doing a carfax and taking it to a ford dealer and having it gone through before I buy. Thanks for the help.

my 97 f2250ld has 157,000 on it and still runs strong, in fact the two mechanics i've brought it to both tell me how nice a truck it is. though I'm looking of a 250HD or 350 with long bed and extended or crew cab.

03 Screw with 5.4 4x4 with 120k on it. Tanny and alternator went several days before Christmas. Just replaced a left bottom ball joint and the black paint is starting to go pretty fast. Other than that, it's the best truck I have ever owned and will drive it till the wheels fall off.

1999 5.4 with 124k... Had it for 4 months, put 500 miles on it so far... It runs and rides real good for a 10+ year old truck. Couldn't ask for more.

Up to 165K now. Have put 25K in the last 10 months. still running like a top but had to replace the battery (again) just last month. Hit a deer (or more like it hit me) last summer. Had it repainted in dark shadow gray when they fixed the damage. Looks like new.

By the way, what do you consider "high mileage"?

I really like my 2001 Ford F150 Supercrew 4x4 with a 5.4L. It has 165k miles on it. I added some aftermarket exhaust and a K&N FIPK. It continues to get 16-17mpg on the freeways. I've hard to replace the usual stuff....belts, brakes, spark plugs, fluids, 2 alternators, etc. I used to tow with it but lately it seems that the transmission is getting weak under loads over 5k lbs. Overall it's a good truck but I'll be selling it soon and getting a diesel.

Post 1999 f-150 207,000

I have 1999 ford bought new and still run it for a service truck today. I have done
most maintence myself, but took some to the local mechanic I know. It does not
use any oil or even have a leak yet. I did replace heater core and alternator from
the original part last year. My 3d set of tires, the old ones michelin dry rotted but
did not wear out in the tread. Now working on leak back slider window

I have to brag on my two little machines!

00 XL 4.2L 5spd bought new, coming up on 300,000 miles and never had to change any major parts, only the DPFE, a linkage on the drivers side intake runner, EGR and PCV valve once, battery, and belt once. Get's a complete retourque and tightening every 50,000 miles for everything. No leaks, drips, rattles, etc since new.
She does all of my farm hauling work, installed a fith wheel hitch and she pulls a 25 foot flatbed loaded with bales of hay a few months out of the year. It's bone stock except for a few little mods that I have made and I am getting 22-24mpg unloaded.

02 XLT Larait Supercrew 4.6L auto bought new coming up on 75,000 miles. Replaced DPFE and that's about it. Retourqued chassis, engine, etc @ 50,000. Only gets taken out every so often for dates, meetings, and such but is still like new. Great truck, just wish it were 5spd and that the leather seats were heated cause they're freezing in the winter.

Great machines and I firmly beleive in regular maintainence. I run Pennzoil Platinum with one quart lucas after break in since new. I firmly believe in keeping things snug/tight too. Spend a day pampering your truck every 50K miles, you depend on it so show it a little care. Retighten loose nuts/bolts, remove your intake periodically and clean any dust out of it. Drop your oil pan check the inside of the crankcase, plastigauge your mains and rods and inspect for scoring, retorque. Check your axles/differential, spindles and bearings, etc. Clean up the engine compartment etc. Doesn't take that long and it will last if you show a little care. If you dont and you just do the minimum then hop in and drive, dont complain about failures and economy loss....it's only as good a machine as you care for it. There is a reflection here.

1998 F150 High Miles

My 98 with a 4.6L and the Off Road Package has about 272,000 miles on it! Sure it has a few thing wrong with it, but I have not abused it. I also have worked it hard. One time I went accross the sacle with a load of gravel in my dump trailer and grosed 24,900 + lbs. She still has great power and the trany does not slip and still shifts as smooth as the day I bought it in 99. I run mobile synthetic 0W-20 in it and change the oil 2 times a year weather it needs it or not. At about 200,000 I changed all of the fluids and have had new lifters put in ( it was knocking when staring up cold -10 deg) Last year I had 10 ply tires put on and had to fix 2 broken manifold bolts that broke off in the head. So being I had the manifolds off I put headers on. Now I am getting ready to put new shocks on due to that they are the originals, plus a few other minor things that I have been putting off.

The odometer quit working around 278 for about a year. It's working again now, but this truck has over 300k, and other that a few coil pack and normal maintenance issues it runs good. My dad pull a goose neck and tractor no telling how many miles with this truck and it still keeps on truckin.
