I don't know why pinion seals go bad on dually's. I have put 2 in my 78 f350 and now my 02 is leaking. I just topped it off with oil. A quart was $20 with tax.
1) vent is plugged causing excessive pressure
2) Incorrect lubricant resulting in too much heat
3) Pinion bearing preload set too loose allowing shaft movement
4) drive shaft out of balance
5) U joints not correctly centered in the yokes
6) Over full
I just did mine about 3 weeks ago with no leaks. One other reason that they will leak is because the pinion nut needs 470 ft/lbs torque to get things to fit together. I have the special socket that it takes to take the nut off the Dana 80. If you need to replace it again, you will need a torque multiplier to get the job done. Let me know if you do this yourself, I will send you the socket. . You will have to get the torque multiplier.

A 3/4" drive toqure wrench goes up to 600ft/lbs. if you can find one to barrow from someone and they have about a four foot handle,to make a easy pull.
Of course it my not fit under the truck to good.LOL
Jim,
We may be having another PAA meeting at Rick's next weekend. Bring over your truck and we'll take care of that pesky seal, too. PM me or I'll give you a call tomorrow.

Guys, got quoted 450.00 for pass. side upper and lower ball joints, can i come over with a truck bed filled with beers, would that cover it, sorry for the hi-jack, just had too. Good luck on the seal bro...
Jim, you don't have to pay anyone for this. We will do it for nothing, but beer. . But then again, you might be better off paying the 75.00 instead of supplying the beer here.
