Pics of Trans Cooler Mod (6.0 IC Install)

Does anyone have pics of the trans cooler lines bent out of the way to fit the 6.0 intercooler?

I'd like to have a look just to make sure before I go and bust a line.

I'm afraid I'm all thumbs when it comes to being gentle.

Guess thats why i'm in the demolition business haha.

Also.. Do I need the spring loaded clamps with the new boots?

Thanks guys in advance.

Andrew

Andrew... what I'm planning on doing is hopefully getting a 6.0L trans cooler to handle the same problem with my current install effort. So far, my "used part" search has been a complete bust, but I have my eye on another one online right now.

Either way, whether or not I can get a 6.0 tranny coooler in time, I'm going to get some tranny cooler hose and relocate the cooler (either 6.0 model or existing 7.3 model) to being in front of the A/C condenser. That way, even if I don't get a 6.0 tranny cooler, the existing 7.3 model will do a better job by being out front.

I plan to finish this job this weekend, and expect to have to fab a couple of brackets, and will take pics and post what I come up with.

I know this doen't help with the question about the lines but it might help with/ where to get a cooler. I have the trucooler, and its way out front. First thing the air hits. My temps are around 160* when towning on a hot summer day. If you cann't find or don't want to wait for a 60 cooler, it could be another option.

It is very strange that there is always hesitation with the tru-cool. It does every bit as good of a job as a 6.0. There seems to be some wierd tendencies to not buy one?????
I have had mine fo 2.5yrs now and it performs great and no leaks. I went the quick route and zip tied mine on and thought I would come back and use the proper mounts later. Well..... later never came and the cooler is still zip tied up front and it is still perfect!

you cant even see it behind the grille

This is why I hesitate to buy a TruCool, I don't want to have to zip-tie it to my rad! The nice thing about the 6 leaker cooler is it bolts right in.

Fabricating a bracket is super easy. With a vice and a drill you can fab it.

Easy like sunday morning!

Good info on the brackets for the TruCool... IIRC it's actually a tad more efficient than the sick leaker OEM cooler. I may have to go that route when I get around to it.

When I installed my Hypermax IC, the stock trans cooler lines were in the way. Sorry I don't have any pics, so I'll do the best to explain. The long line that goes to the driver's side, I was able to bend slightly out of the way. The pass. side hose fitting that it permenantly mounted at an angle was the issue. I cut the hose barb off with a sawsall and threaded a NPT plug into it. Then I drilled and tapped the top of the angled block so I could add a 90* hose barb fitting at a different angle.

***When drilling, I went very slow and tried to keep the shavings buildup to a minimum. After the holes were drilled, I shot some breakcleaner down them and using my air compressor, blasted air from the other fitting to flush out all the shavings. That way the shavings went out the new holes drilled and not through the cooler.***

It worked very well, but then went to the 6.0 cooler instead.

Heres a link to my thread about the install of the 6.0 intercooler/trans cooler, I saw absolutly no way of bending these lines out of the way, so I went ahead and did the trans cooler at the same time.

Second page has a pic of the lines that are in the way.

Excellent details on getting by with the stocker. Thanks for that. Looks like I'll be getting a 6.0 model after all (the larger of the two sizes that came with the 6.0).... something like 32 rows in it. I won't know for sure, though, until either later this evening or early tomorrow morning if the deal is going to go through.

On the Trucool... I like what I've read about it, and had not completely ruled it out altogether, but it turns out to be a little more $$ for the MAX unit as compared to the 6.0 unit I'm probably getting. If my 6.0 deal falls through, i'll just get the MAX and be done with it.

I backed out of my 6.0L trans cooler deal. Things took a turn in my head last night when reviewing my recent finances, and I decided I just have to relocate the existing 7.3L cooler to the front and move on. Upgrade later.

There is a good looking 6.0 cooler on ebay right now, and it's the larger one installed on the '04 model years. As of right now, it's listed for min bid of $70 with no one bidding yet. About 3 days left on teh auction. Also, there is a listed $30 shipping cost, which may be negotiated to something less. When I got my 6.0L IC, the shipping cost was only about $25 at the most.
