ok to unhook waste gate line?
ok installed my gauges a couple weeks ago(pyro, boost, trans) decided to try unhooking the red vacuum line. noticed boost went from 18 to about 21/22. Is this going to damage anything/hurt/or shorten the life of anything. i havent noticed any turbo surge/shutter. i don't have a programmer/tuner jus the simple mods. Just curious i like to take care of her. Thanks

You are running on the borderline of setting the check engine light, but you aren't going to immediately hurt anything. Long term, since the turbo is turning more RPM at full boost, it could be argued that it will fail sooner than a stock-psi turbo, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Air doesn't make horsepower, burning fuel does and without a tuner you aren't getting any more fuel than you were before. You're just making the turbo work harder and making the engine run a little hotter. There isn't any benefit at this point.

You won't hurt anything running with the wastegate unhooked. The stock turbo starts getting cranky above 25 psi... anything above that and the turbo isn't efficient anymore. I have an early 99 w/wastegate deleted and I've seen boost as high as 28 psi while towing, still no big bang from the turbo. I can hit 23-24 pretty easily if I'm on it. The PCM trips the SES light for overboost at 23 psi, but it has to be sustained at that psi for a certain amount of time before the light goes off.
