Well to start, the name is Andrew. I own a '92 Ranger. I have some pretty nice plans up my sleeve.
Things include:
Motor swap
Tranny swap
Build of the new motor (staying N/A)
Tons of body work
Full interior rebuild
No worries about being updated on the progress, cause I will have a whole build thread. Also going to lower it about 1.5-2 inches all the way around.
My goal is to have a hell of a daily driver, as well as some fun at the track. The tranny is going to be staying automatic, still doing research to find exactly the way to go.
Open to any form of questions, comments, ideas, negative comments, I don't care. Any input is taken into consideration.
You should grab an automatic from a mustang GT, it will be strong enough for the V-8 and retain an overdrive gear for cruising. You will want an 8.8 rear or a 9", your ranger could allready have an 8.8, you should check that out. The 8.8 is a strong unit and is used in the explorer, F-150 and mustang GT as well as 4.0 powered rangers and ranger 4x4's. The mustang GT and explorer have the 32 spline 8.8's, the ranger unless it's a level II has the 27 spline axles. What would be nice is if you could land a donor mustang GT so you could ravage all it's parts, the engine, tranny and rearend, also wiring harness and computer.

you're going to have to bare with me as i am very new to cars. i'm only 17, and I had a 2004 Tiburon that was totaled, so I'm pretty much just learning everything. My older cousin is helping me with the majority.
the tranny that I heard to use was a c6 from an older pickup. scout around to find one, but i have no idea what trucks came with them
The C-6 is a very tough tranny and came in F-150's up till about 86 I believe. However, the C-6 has no overdrive gear, it's a 3 speed. Ford has used the C-6 since the 60's, it was used in a lot of ford muscle cars and 4x4 truck trucks. If you use the tranny from a newer mustang GT, say late 80's, early 90's, it will be very strong and have an overdrive gear to help out with mpg on the highway. C-6's are getting hard to come by and there wasn't very many made with the small block V-8 bolt pattern, there even more rare. I would just use the drivetrain from a mustang GT as they are more plentiful, it will be a lot less hassle.
Well it will bolt to your engine, then talk to james duff about what other conversion parts you may need, such as cross menbers, headers and what not. This swap in quite common these days, so there's a lot of info, parts and suport for doing it.
